Fuel in Weipa and Cape York

You might travel long distances in Cape York, but the good news is that you should never run out of petrol or diesel. There are fuel stations every 200km on your journey.

We've listed every fuel outlet in Cape York from Laura to Bramwell Junction. As a general rule, travellers should fill up at Lakeland before hitting the Peninsula as it is the last of the reasonably priced fuel in the region. Weipa has the cheapest diesel in the Cape, while other roadhouses and outlets vary.

Fuel outlets are also available in the Indigenous communities of Aurukun, Mapoon, Kowanyama, Lockhart River and Pormpuraaw. They are operated by the local councils.

Please note that very few outlets offer 24/7 fuel. It's best to check the operating hours if you are travelling at night as most will close in the evening.
